Q. Who is Find a Way?


A. Find a Way is a grassroots group of parents with children who are differently-abled and professionals committed to the planning, fundraising, building and operation of Café Inclusion and Our Place.

Q. What do we mean by differently-abled?

A. Differently-abled refers to people who have specific needs, as those associated with a disability such as: autism, cerebral palsy, downs syndrome, hearing and/or vision loss, multiple sclerosis or any other physical, neurological, emotional or learning disability. People who are differently-abled face challenges every day ranging from being denied entrance to public buildings not wheelchair accessible to grueling medical treatments to dealing with prejudice.

Q. What is Universal Design?

A. Universal design is a manner of designing products, services and environments for the use of all people to the greatest extent possible, regardless of age, ability or circumstance.

Q. What do we mean by interactive?

A. By interactive, we mean hands on, roll up your sleeves and get wet, there isn’t anything you can’t touch or play with, developmentally appropriate exhibits that:

  • Meet children’s physical, intellectual, emotional and social needs
  • Encourage children to share, learn self-control and develop healthy relationships with others
  • Provide opportunities for children to play while they learn, using their imaginations and creativity
  • Offer play without limitations through Universal Design

Q. What types of exhibits will Our Place have?

A. While many are still in development, examples include:

  • A sensory room incorporating soothing and calming sights, sounds and textures
  • An infant/parent area for our youngest visitors to explore their surroundings safely
  • Performing arts room to put on a show with music, dance and theatre
  • Creative arts room for making masterpieces from clay, paint and everything sparkly!
  • Our Neighborhood---a collection of pretend play businesses
